For soil decontamination in Westmount, rely on the professional team at S.A.P. EXCAVATION, which has been carrying out this type of work for twenty years.
Targeted removal of contaminated soils is performed on residential, commercial, institutional and industrial properties. We then backfill with compliant and stable soils.
We hold a licence from the Régie du bâtiment (no. 5651-9432-01), which allows us to act as a general and specialized excavation contractor. In other words, we can also demolish buildings and work beneath foundations when required.
Soil decontamination is complex work that requires method and expertise. That is exactly what our team delivers on every project.
We work in a structured manner and in compliance with the requirements of the Ministry of the Environment (Environment Quality Act) as well as Traces Québec (Regulation respecting the traceability of excavated soils).
Our company is a member of the Commission de la construction and the APCHQ.
When land may be contaminated, the owner has a legal obligation to have a characterization performed and, if necessary, soil decontamination carried out in order to eliminate any risk to public health and to the ecosystem.
The process begins with an environmental engineer’s analysis. They review the site history, examine past activities carried out on the property and identify potential sources of contamination.
Soil samples are then collected and sent to a laboratory. If hydrocarbons, heavy metals or other contaminants are detected, the engineer precisely evaluates the extent of the situation and determines the measures to be taken for each soil type.
Based on these analyses, a clear action plan is established. If regulatory thresholds are exceeded, decontamination is required by law.
And if soils exceed the government thresholds allowing them to be decontaminated, transportation to an approved disposal site is mandatory.
According to the Ministry of the Environment Intervention Guide, Category C soils or higher often contain heavy metals (lead, mercury, etc.), hydrocarbons or persistent organic pollutants.
They are considered hazardous materials when they exceed the leaching criteria established by the Regulation respecting hazardous materials.
These criteria determine whether a contaminant has the potential to dissolve in the soil and possibly migrate into the environment, particularly toward groundwater.
Once the plan is approved, our team takes action. We remove contaminated soils while strictly following the technical recommendations established by the engineer.
To reduce impacts on the neighbourhood, we notably use an electric excavator. It is much quieter than a traditional model and produces no diesel gas emissions.
Contaminated soils are transported in compliance to authorized treatment or disposal facilities. In some cases, they may be stockpiled and treated directly on site.
When soils can be decontaminated and deemed compliant, they are reused as backfill and reinstalled. If their contamination level remains too high, we replace them with clean and certified materials.
After the work, we restore the site: grading, surface preparation, paving or sod installation. You can then continue your project with confidence.
