For soil decontamination in Outremont, rely on the S.A.P. EXCAVATION team, which has been offering this service for 20 years.
We carry out the excavation (targeted removal) of contaminated soils in residential, commercial, institutional and industrial environments. We can even excavate beneath foundation footings and replace contaminated soil with clean and stable material.
Our soil decontamination work is performed safely for underground infrastructures as well as for homes and buildings.
Our team operates in a structured manner and in compliance with the requirements of the Ministry of the Environment (Environment Quality Act) and the Regulation respecting the traceability of excavated soils, Traces Québec.
Holding a general contractor and specialized excavation contractor licence from the Régie du bâtiment (licence no. 5651-9432-01), the president of S.A.P. EXCAVATION is a member of the Commission de la construction and the APCHQ.
The role of our team is to transform problematic sites into safe spaces for people and the environment, making them ready for sale or construction.
We can also, when required, demolish buildings and transport debris for disposal.
We work closely with environmental engineers to ensure everything is compliant and properly documented.
Before any soil decontamination work begins, a crucial step must be completed: soil characterization. This work is carried out by an environmental engineer.
First, the engineer reviews the history of the site and of neighbouring properties to identify the source of contamination and determine whether contamination from adjacent soils could occur after the work.
Then, samples are taken at different depths and analyzed in a laboratory. The objective is to verify the possible presence of hydrocarbons, chemicals, heavy metals, asbestos or other harmful substances. Groundwater can also be tested if necessary.
The soils are then classified by level of contamination according to the standards of the Ministry of the Environment Intervention Guide. If standards are exceeded, a decontamination plan is prepared and submitted to the authorities.
Class A soil is considered clean and can be used without restriction. Class AB corresponds to an acceptable contamination limit for residential or institutional uses.
Category BC soils are contaminated but may be suitable for certain commercial or industrial uses. Categories C and above require significant corrective measures, sometimes including disposal at an authorized site.
It should be noted that, in many cases, soil decontamination by property owners is a legal obligation.
Once the decontamination plan is approved, our team proceeds with the work.
We remove contaminated soils using adapted machinery, including an electric excavator with no diesel emissions and reduced noise, which is particularly appreciated in urban environments. Contaminated materials are transported to authorized facilities or stockpiled for on-site treatment when possible.
When soils can be remediated, they are reinstalled by our team as backfill. Otherwise, they are replaced with compliant material.
The site is then restored: grading, surface preparation, paving or sod installation, depending on our clients’ needs.
